Vintage Good Quality Majestic #444 Washboard
Large family-size tin version of Zinc King #703.
Hefty tin version of Universal #134

Save 25% $17.50 on this Fully Guaranteed Washboard with rust and slightly warped bottom wood rung.

Genuine Vintage Majestic #444 Washboard. Made by National Washboard Co.
Similar to Universal #134 which is a favorite among players who want a larger version of the much loved pail-size Zinc King #703. The Majestic #444 is a little longer, wider, and heavier than the #134.
Tin rub surface is dark with rust. As is common with the National Washboard Company, this version made in Saginaw is less robust than washboards made in Chicago and Memphis.

Tone
The Tin washboards in our shop feature three kinds of rubbing surfaces: Zinc, Shiny Tin, and Dull Tin. All the washboards sound pretty much the same. In our tests the shiny rub surface had the highest tone, the dull surface had the lowest.
Zinc (similar to Zinc King #703)
Shiny (higher tone than Zinc King #703)
Dull (similar, but lower tone than Zinc King #703)

Which Washboard Grade is Right for You?
Every
washboard we sell is a fine playing vintage instrument. All parts are intact and in good working order. For all practical purposes each washboard plays just as well as the next. The difference in price merely reflects the outward appearance of the wood, the rubbing surface, and the ink.

Washboards in all grades below are antique objects that might show signs of age, wear, or inconsequential damage such as small chips in the frame, water staining, and paint spots from long term storage or display.

Grading Scale in a Nutshell:
The weathered ones cost less, the clean unblemished ones cost more.

Good
Might show scuffs, scratches, minor cracks in wood. Ink might be faded or missing. Might show conspicuous corrosion, soap residue or other slight imperfections. No significant cracks in wood frame. No pin holes, cracks or breaks in metal rubbing surface. No serious ruts, dents or substantial scratches (i.e. washboard was not a musical instrument in former life). No missing back panels. No missing parts. Framework is sturdy yet flexible. Washboard has been around the block a few times but is eminently playable.

Better
Overall better condition.

Near Mint
Light wear. Hardly used. Little or no soap residue. Ink color and print quality usually good, but not always.

Mint

Appears unused. Ink color and print quality usually good, but not always. Belongs in a museum. Don't know why you would want to scrape up a fine antique relic like this to play music on it though.
